{"id":3153,"date":"2022-09-29T10:09:51","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T14:09:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/?p=3153"},"modified":"2022-09-30T07:05:37","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T11:05:37","slug":"wva-response-netherlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/en_gb\/wva-response-netherlands\/","title":{"rendered":"WVA\u2019s Response to the Netherlands Consultation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>See the Dutch version below.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On behalf of the World Vapers\u2019 Alliance, we call upon policymakers in the Netherlands to take into consideration the following evidence on the crucial role that vaping flavours play in adult smoking cessation:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studies showed that<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/ntr\/article\/22\/10\/1831\/5843872?login=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two-thirds of vapers<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">use non-tobacco flavours to quit smoking and are<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32501490\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">230% more likely to quit<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flavour bans are counterproductive as they would push<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/ntr\/article\/22\/10\/1831\/5843872\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5 out of 10 vapers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> back to smoking or the black market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/en_gb\/wva-conducted-a-survey-on-a-perception-of-vaping-policies-worldwide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The survey conducted by World Vapers\u2019 Alliance<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">confirms that flavour prohibition would bring massive negative effects on public health:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of 415 total responses, 96.8% are current vapers, and 80% are former smokers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To the question of which vaping flavours they prefer, 97% of surveyed responded vaping flavours or a combination of flavours and tobacco taste. Only 3.4% say they prefer tobacco.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The survey showed that if flavours were banned: <\/span><b>more than half<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of vapers would seek to get their flavours on the black market or return to smoking. 21% say they would exclusively vape tobacco flavour, and 16% think they would quit vaping at all.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considering the information mentioned above and that vaping is<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/e-cigarettes-an-evidence-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">95% less harmful than smoking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1808779\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">twice as effective as other harm reduction methods<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we encourage policymakers in the Netherlands to endorse vaping together with flavours as a smoking cessation method rather than implement policies that would prohibit them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2014<\/p>\n<p><b>WVA\u2019s reactie op de Nederlandse Consultatie<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Namens het World Vaper\u2019s Alliance willen we beleidsmakers informeren dat vapesmaken een rol spelen om roken op te geven.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studies laten zien dat <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/ntr\/article\/22\/10\/1831\/5843872?login=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweederde van vapers <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gebruik maken van andere vapesmaken dan tabaksmaak om te stoppen met roken.
