The EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, questioned the effectiveness of vaping as a smoking cessation aid, attacked nicotine and claimed vaping would be a gateway to smoking.<\/h5>\n<p>Michael Landl, Director of the World Vapers\u2019 Alliance, commented: <i>\u201cIt is shocking that the EU Commission still peddles these worn-out and debunked theories. The Commission systematically ignores the wealth of scientific evidence pointing to the benefits of vaping, not to mention the first-hand experience of millions of vapers. Vaping is <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/e-cigarettes-around-95-less-harmful-than-tobacco-estimates-landmark-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>95% less harmful<\/i><\/a><i> than smoking and a <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qmul.ac.uk\/media\/news\/2019\/smd\/e-cigarettes-more-effective-than-nicotine-replacement-therapies-finds-major-uk-clinical-trial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>more effective method to quit smoking<\/i><\/a><i> than traditional therapies such as gum and patches. The Commission&#8217;s approach to vaping will do nothing but cost lives.\u201d <\/i><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/E-9-2022-001031-ASW_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> is a written response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/E-9-2022-001031_EN.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">question<\/a> asked by MEP Sara Skyttedal regarding the future treatment of vaping and snus, and how the Commission plans to deal with them in light of Europe\u2019s Beating Cancer Plan.<\/p>\n<p>The EU Commission keeps refusing to compare vaping to smoking. If they did so, it would become clear that the current approach is wrong. Professor Jacob George (University of Dundee) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0735109719381938\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a> that smokers who switch to vaping \u201c<i>demonstrate significant improvement in vascular health<\/i>\u201d.
