Whilst at the bottom of this list were the Netherlands, Denmark, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2018\/11\/21\/why-the-uks-smoking-rates-are-plummeting-faster-than-the-eus\/\">the United Kingdom<\/a>, all at 16%, and finally, Sweden, at an impressive 5%.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"block-fe95a75c-91c0-430f-9189-ff461cdbea5c\" class=\"block-editor-rich-text__editable block-editor-block-list__block wp-block wp-block-heading rich-text\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"document\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Block: Heading\" data-block=\"fe95a75c-91c0-430f-9189-ff461cdbea5c\" data-type=\"core\/heading\" data-title=\"Heading\">Undoing its success?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"block-f63f976f-cf02-4f9b-977e-ce95d7faa081\" class=\"block-editor-rich-text__editable block-editor-block-list__block wp-block wp-block-paragraph rich-text\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"document\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\" data-block=\"f63f976f-cf02-4f9b-977e-ce95d7faa081\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-title=\"Paragraph\" data-empty=\"false\">Sweden is known for having reached this status\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2017\/06\/28\/sweden-urged-to-own-up-to-its-successful-harm-reduction-strategy\/\">by adopting a harm reduction strategy<\/a>\u00a0in a favour of a forbidding stance. It did this by endorsing the use of snus for smoking cessation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-74bebc49-5203-4cf9-ac7b-9f6267904906\" class=\"block-editor-rich-text__editable block-editor-block-list__block wp-block wp-block-paragraph rich-text\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"document\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\" data-block=\"74bebc49-5203-4cf9-ac7b-9f6267904906\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-title=\"Paragraph\" data-empty=\"false\">Snus is a moist tobacco powder pouch that is placed under the upper lip for extended periods. Throughout the EU, this product is only legal in Sweden, where it is considered an effective harm reduction product. However it is also widely used in Denmark and Norway. In fact, snus has not only led to Sweden boasting the lowest smoking rates in Europe, but more importantly also to reporting the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2022\/01\/28\/swedish-mep-criticises-eu-for-ignoring-snus-potential-to-reduce-smoking-rates\/\">lowest rates of lung cancer<\/a>\u00a0across the continent.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"block-782785f1-acd3-407d-bbe6-32c067b8cc74\" class=\"block-editor-rich-text__editable block-editor-block-list__block wp-block wp-block-heading rich-text\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"document\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Block: Heading\" data-block=\"782785f1-acd3-407d-bbe6-32c067b8cc74\" data-type=\"core\/heading\" data-title=\"Heading\">A step backwards<\/h2>\n<p id=\"block-116a4122-88a3-405e-b83a-8cff4767f67c\" class=\"block-editor-rich-text__editable block-editor-block-list__block wp-block wp-block-paragraph rich-text\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"document\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\" data-block=\"116a4122-88a3-405e-b83a-8cff4767f67c\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-title=\"Paragraph\" data-empty=\"false\">Discussing the planned flavour ban, director of the World Vapers\u2019 Alliance (WVA) Michael Landl, said that if the measure goes into effect, the 150,000 former smokers in Sweden who are now vaping instead, could\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2020\/04\/20\/once-again-flavours-are-preferred-by-adults-not-just-teens\/\">be forced to switch back<\/a>\u00a0to smoking. \u201cBanning flavours could force thousands of former smokers in Sweden to take up the habit once again. Research shows vapers are more than twice as likely to quit with flavours. If they are banned, 150.000 vapers \u2013 the equivalent of almost the entire population of Uppsala \u2013 would lose their flavours and could go back to smoking. This would be a major setback in the fight against smoking and its related illnesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-a99beb97-d609-43bd-bdde-f47246e6590a\" class=\"block-editor-rich-text__editable block-editor-block-list__block wp-block wp-block-paragraph rich-text\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"document\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\" data-block=\"a99beb97-d609-43bd-bdde-f47246e6590a\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-title=\"Paragraph\" data-empty=\"false\">\u201cIt is worrying that a country like Sweden, famed for its pragmatism, is taking such a heavy handed approach towards vaping. Politicians have lost their common sense, and it is vapers and smokers who will suffer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-886e6ee4-a0a2-418f-a7d0-be537f51c1bf\" class=\"block-editor-rich-text__editable block-editor-block-list__block wp-block wp-block-paragraph rich-text\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"document\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\" data-block=\"886e6ee4-a0a2-418f-a7d0-be537f51c1bf\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-title=\"Paragraph\" data-empty=\"false\">A press release by Landl went on to explain that the Swedish government is aiming to impose tougher regulations on alternative nicotine products including vaping and nicotine pouches.
