During the pandemic, politicians constantly repeated that the science has got it right, and that we all should listen and do as told <\/strong><strong>\u2014<\/strong><strong> and maybe rightly so. It is astonishing, however, that this mantra does not seem to apply to other areas of science than the pandemic.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>According to Public Health England, vaping is <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/733022\/Ecigarettes_an_evidence_update_A_report_commissioned_by_Public_Health_England_FINAL.pdf\">95% less harmful<\/a> than smoking. This was recently reconfirmed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/news\/vaping-substantially-less-harmful-than-smoking-largest-review-of-its-kind-finds#:~:text=New%20research%20from%20the%20Institute,lung%20disease%20and%20cardiovascular%20disease.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">largest literature review of its kind by Kings College<\/a>, which found that <em>\u201cthe use of vaping products rather than smoking leads to a substantial reduction in exposure to toxicants that promote cancer, lung disease and cardiovascular disease\u201d. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the highly regarded healthcare NGO Cochrane concluded in its latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cochranelibrary.com\/cdsr\/doi\/10.1002\/14651858.CD010216.pub7\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meta-review<\/a> of 78 studies that \u201c<em>there is high certainty evidence that ECs [E-Cigarettes] with nicotine increase quit rates compared to NRT [nicotine replacement therapy] and moderate certainty evidence that they increase quit rates compared to ECs without nicotine.<\/em>\u201d <strong>In sum, the science is clear: vaping is less harmful than smoking, as it helps smokers to quit cigarettes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>The EU explores flavour bans and higher taxes on vaping<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Unfortunately, many politicians in the European Parliament and even more EU Commission officers don\u2019t listen to science<\/strong>. Currently, we are discussing the \u201cTobacco Products Directive\u201d and \u201cTobacco Excise Directive\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/health.ec.europa.eu\/tobacco\/product-regulation\/implementing-tobacco-products-directive-directive-201440eu\/revision-tobacco-products-directive_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">updates<\/a>. Both of them are also regulating the treatment of vaping. Unfortunately, so far, <strong>we have seen anti-vaping policies being considered: possible flavour bans and increased taxation.
