King, dem Direktor des Zentrums f\u00fcr Tabakprodukte der US-amerikanischen Lebensmittel- und Arzneimittelbeh\u00f6rde (FDA). Die meisten anwesenden Aktivisten freuten sich darauf, King einige wichtige Fragen stellen zu k\u00f6nnen, auf deren Antworten sie seit seinem Amtsantritt im Juli gewartet hatten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King begann seine Ausf\u00fchrungen mit der Feststellung, dass er seine Aufgabe, tabakbedingte Sch\u00e4den und Todesf\u00e4lle zu beenden, sehr ernst nehme. Er f\u00fchrte weiter aus, dass man als Regulierungsbeh\u00f6rde den \u201cNettonutzen f\u00fcr die \u00f6ffentliche Gesundheit im Verh\u00e4ltnis zum Risiko\u201d betrachte. Er gab jedoch keinerlei Hinweise darauf, wie er Jugendliche UND Erwachsene sch\u00fctzen wolle oder wie er einen Weg f\u00fcr jene Erwachsenen aufzeigen wolle, die keinen Zugang mehr zu den verbotenen Produkten h\u00e4tten, von denen sie abh\u00e4ngig seien.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ganz im Stil der FDA sprach King \u00fcber den Konsum durch Jugendliche und lobte sich und die Beh\u00f6rde nat\u00fcrlich f\u00fcr die rasante Bearbeitung der 6,7 Millionen Antr\u00e4ge. Er prahlte sogar beinahe mit der Anzahl der Ablehnungen und den 23 von der Beh\u00f6rde zugelassenen Produkten. Verschwiegen hat er dabei, dass die meisten dieser Zulassungen f\u00fcr veraltete, nicht mehr produzierte und von Erwachsenen kaum noch verwendete Produkte gelten.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Erstaunlicherweise r\u00e4umte er ein, dass E-Zigaretten ein geringeres Risiko darstellen als herk\u00f6mmliche Zigaretten, scheint aber keine Pl\u00e4ne zu haben, die von der FDA verbreiteten Fehlinformationen zu korrigieren.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leider mussten die geduldig wartenden Anwesenden, die auf die Fragerunde nach Kings Pr\u00e4sentation warteten, feststellen, dass ihm die Zeit ausging und er das Geb\u00e4ude fluchtartig verlie\u00df. Zu allem \u00dcberfluss beendete King seine Rede mit der Bemerkung, er m\u00fcsse gehen, da er ein Treffen mit \u201ceinem unserer Lieblingssenatoren\u201d habe.
