J\u00e4hrlich sterben in Kenia \u00fcber 8100 Menschen an Krankheiten, die mit dem Rauchen zusammenh\u00e4ngen, obwohl dort im Durchschnitt weniger Menschen rauchlosen Tabak konsumieren als in L\u00e4ndern mit mittlerem HDI. Ma\u00dfnahmen zur Schadensminderung im Tabakkonsum sind in Kenia weder weit verbreitet noch fl\u00e4chendeckend akzeptiert oder umgesetzt worden. So werden beispielsweise nikotinhaltige Produkte mit reduziertem Risiko, wie E-Zigaretten, Snus und Tabakerhitzer, hoch besteuert.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mein Projekt zielte darauf ab, die Umsetzung und das Verst\u00e4ndnis von Ma\u00dfnahmen zur Tabakschadensminderung bei Rauchern, Tabakkonsumenten, politischen Entscheidungstr\u00e4gern und Gesundheitsdienstleistern marginalisierter Gemeinschaften in Kenia zu verbessern. Da Raucherentw\u00f6hnungsprogramme in Kenia keine sichereren Nikotinprodukte beinhalten, war mein Projekt darauf ausgerichtet, das Verst\u00e4ndnis und die Umsetzung von Ma\u00dfnahmen zur Tabakschadensminderung bei politischen Entscheidungstr\u00e4gern zu verbessern, die die Politik des lokalen Gesundheitsministeriums mitgestalten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ich f\u00fchrte Umfragen in Form von Frageb\u00f6gen unter Rauchern und medizinischem Fachpersonal in einigen marginalisierten Gemeinden Kenias durch, insbesondere in Westkenia, im Rift Valley und im Bezirk Machakos.,<\/span><\/p>\n

Ich wollte die Perspektive der Schadensminderung im Zusammenhang mit Rauchen und Tabakkonsum unter Rauchern in l\u00e4ndlichen Gebieten verstehen. Au\u00dferdem habe ich in Eldoret einen lokalen Workshop mit Mitarbeitern der Raucherentw\u00f6hnungsabteilung durchgef\u00fchrt, um wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zur Schadensminderung im Tabakkonsum und zu sichereren Nikotinprodukten zu verbreiten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Die Umfrage zeigt, dass die meisten Gesundheitsfachkr\u00e4fte im l\u00e4ndlichen Kenia nicht wissen, dass Nikotin keinen Krebs verursacht. Dies verdeutlicht, dass Mediziner kaum oder gar kein Wissen \u00fcber Tabakschadensminimierung besitzen und die Regierung daher nicht angemessen in Tabakfragen beraten k\u00f6nnen. Dabei sind sie es, die den nationalen Bem\u00fchungen zur Tabakkontrolle Geh\u00f6r verschaffen und sich auf nationaler Ebene f\u00fcr die Tabakschadensminimierung einsetzen k\u00f6nnen. Die Strategie der Tabakschadensminimierung zielt darauf ab, die hohen Todeszahlen durch Zigaretten zu senken, indem Raucher zu weniger riskanten Alternativen wie dem Dampfen bewegt werden. Dieser Ansatz gewinnt in L\u00e4ndern an Bedeutung, deren fortschrittliche Tabakkontrollpolitik die Raucherquoten deutlich senkt und dadurch Leben rettet. In Kenia hingegen halten zu viele Menschen an der gescheiterten Tabakkontrollstrategie \u201eAufh\u00f6ren oder sterben\u201c und den Mythen fest, mit denen diese Strategie aufrechterhalten wurde.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Laut den durchgef\u00fchrten Umfragen w\u00fcnscht sich die \u00fcberwiegende Mehrheit der Befragten, Produkte zur Tabakschadensminderung wie Nikotinbeutel und E-Zigaretten zu nutzen, um mit dem Rauchen herk\u00f6mmlicher, krebserregender Zigaretten aufzuh\u00f6ren. Fast drei Viertel der Befragten empfinden diese innovativen, lebensrettenden Produkte jedoch als zu teuer oder zu schwer erh\u00e4ltlich, und fast alle w\u00fcrden deren Nutzung einstellen, sollte die Regierung den Preis erh\u00f6hen. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichen die dringende Notwendigkeit, dass unsere Regulierungsbeh\u00f6rden sicherere Nikotinprodukte als unverzichtbares und wirksames Instrument im Kampf gegen die j\u00e4hrlich durch tabakbedingte Krankheiten verlorenen Leben anerkennen. Fast alle Raucher, die an der Umfrage teilgenommen haben, sind der Ansicht, dass sicherere Nikotinprodukte ihnen die besten Chancen auf einen erfolgreichen Rauchstopp bieten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aus dieser Untersuchung ging klar hervor, dass Kenia, anstatt eine dogmatische, unwissenschaftliche Haltung gegen\u00fcber der Tabakschadensminderung einzunehmen, diese als eine vielversprechende Chance begreifen sollte, Tausende von Menschenleben zu retten, die durch Zigaretten verloren gegangen sind.<\/span><\/p>\n
