Rygning dr\u00e6ber mere end 8 millioner mennesker hvert \u00e5r. Det er den st\u00f8rste enkeltst\u00e5ende \u00e5rsag til forebyggelige d\u00f8dsfald som f\u00f8lge af ikke-smittsomme sygdomme p\u00e5 planeten. Og de globale m\u00e5l for at reducere disse d\u00f8dsfald er ikke p\u00e5 rette spor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Det er den d\u00e5rlige nyhed. Her er den del, der burde holde politikerne v\u00e5gne om natten.<\/span><\/p>\n

De <\/span>l\u00f8sning<\/span><\/a> findes allerede. Nogle lande opdagede det for \u00e5r siden. Og det meste af verden ignorerer det stadig, eller v\u00e6rre endnu, begr\u00e6nser det aktivt.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sverige har den laveste d\u00f8dsrate for tobaksrygning i verden. Japan har reduceret cigaretsalget med mere end halvdelen i l\u00f8bet af det seneste \u00e5rti. Storbritannien har halveret sin rygerate. New Zealands unge voksne er reelt r\u00f8gfrie. Disse lande opn\u00e5ede ikke dette gennem strengere regulering eller forbud. De gav rygere adgang til mindre skadelige alternativer og lod folk skifte fra cigaretter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Resultaterne er ikke tilf\u00e6ldige. Det er, hvad der sker, n\u00e5r politik f\u00f8lger beviser i stedet for ideologi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sidste m\u00e5ned, tre tidligere ledende WHO-embedsm\u00e6nd <\/span>udgivet<\/span><\/a> en artikel i Nature Health. Disse er ikke udenforst\u00e5ende eller branchefolk. De har tilbragt karrierer i centrum af global sundhedspolitik. Deres konklusion er direkte: den nuv\u00e6rende tilgang kan ikke f\u00e5 rygeprocenterne ned hurtigt nok til at n\u00e5 m\u00e5lene for ikke-smitsomme sygdomme, og mindre skadelige alternativer skal v\u00e6re en del af indsatsen. Det er s\u00e5dan risikoproportional regulering ser ud. Det, der ikke giver mening, er at anvende strengere restriktioner p\u00e5 produkter, der b\u00e6rer en br\u00f8kdel af risikoen.<\/span><\/p>\n
