Vaping kan dog v\u00e6re en del af l\u00f8sningen og redde mange liv, argumenterer Bernd Mayer, professor i farmakologi og toksikologi ved universitetet i Graz i \u00d8strig.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Vaping er et varmt emne i EU lige nu, hvor Europas plan for bek\u00e6mpelse af kr\u00e6ft er p\u00e5 vej. S\u00e5 hvordan b\u00f8r EU behandle vaping?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Et vigtigt punkt at forst\u00e5 er, at vaping ikke er rygning. At behandle de to ting ens ville v\u00e6re en fejltagelse. Det er videnskabeligt fastsl\u00e5et, at vaping er mindre skadeligt end rygning. P\u00e5 baggrund af 700.000 d\u00f8dsfald om \u00e5ret p\u00e5 grund af rygningsrelaterede sygdomme, og med et alternativ, som Public Health England angiver er mindst 95% mindre skadeligt, skal EU st\u00f8tte vaping som en skadesreducerende metode for rygere.<\/p>\n<p>I mods\u00e6tning til traditionelle cigaretter udsender e-cigaretter ikke r\u00f8g, og udledningen af giftige forbr\u00e6ndingsprodukter reduceres med 99%. P\u00e5 grund af dette er livstidsrisikoen for kr\u00e6ft for dampere hundredtusindvis af gange lavere end for rygere. Unders\u00f8gelser viser ogs\u00e5, at den kardiovaskul\u00e6re og lungefunktion hos rygere, der skifter til vaping, forbedres drastisk. Derfor er vaping ikke forbundet med en klinisk relevant alvorlig sundhedsrisiko og folkesundhedsm\u00e6ssige gevinster, n\u00e5r rygere skifter til vaping.<\/p>\n<p><em>Trods alle disse beviser er nogle rapporter skeptiske over for vaping, s\u00e5som Europa-Kommissionens nylige SCHEER-rapport.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SCHEER-rapporten er langt fra en objektiv forskningsartikel. Selvom vurderingen af relative risici er n\u00f8glen til skadesreduktionstilgangen, blev rapporten udarbejdet p\u00e5 en s\u00e5dan m\u00e5de, at der ikke kunne foretages nogen sammenligning mellem vaping og rygning. Denne anmodning resulterede i en meningsl\u00f8s artikel med ringe videnskabelig v\u00e6rdi, der var fuldst\u00e6ndig uvidende (bevidst eller ej) om konceptet skadesreduktion. Desv\u00e6rre bruger nogle politikere denne rapport som et instrument til at argumentere for uberettiget h\u00e5rd regulering af vaping.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c&quot;Folkesundheden har i det seneste \u00e5rti forvandlet sine berettigede bestr\u00e6belser p\u00e5 at reducere rygerater til en uberettiget krig mod nikotin&quot;\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Men p\u00e5 trods af s\u00e5 meget forskning er vaping stadig meget kontroversielt i mange lande. Hvorfor det?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Der er ganske vist alvorlige misforst\u00e5elser i offentligheden om vaping og dens grundl\u00e6ggende forskelle fra rygning. Misforst\u00e5elserne er mangfoldige, men den falske opfattelse af nikotin er uden tvivl et s\u00e6rligt bekymrende eksempel af h\u00f8j relevans. I 1976 udtalte professor Michael Russell, en pioner inden for studiet af tobaksafh\u00e6ngighed og udviklingen af rygestopmidler, at &quot;Folk ryger for nikotinens skyld, men de d\u00f8r af tj\u00e6ren&quot;. Ikke desto mindre har folkesundheden i det seneste \u00e5rti forvandlet sine berettigede bestr\u00e6belser p\u00e5 at reducere rygerater til en uberettiget krig mod nikotin.<\/p>\n<p>Nikotinholdige l\u00e6gemidler som nikotinplaster eller nikotininhalatorer er frit tilg\u00e6ngelige i h\u00e5ndk\u00f8b og anbefales uforbeholdent til rygere af sundhedsmyndighederne. De samme myndigheder udsender dog regelm\u00e6ssigt advarsler mod nikotin i e-cigaretter. De erkl\u00e6rer pludselig dette godartede rekreative stof, med egenskaber svarende til koffein, for et potent giftigt og vanedannende stof.
