Med de nuv\u00e6rende anti-skade-reduktionsstrategier forventes EU at n\u00e5 sit m\u00e5l om at n\u00e5 en 5% rygerate inden 2040 - med hele 60 \u00e5r. Lande som Tyskland har stadig rygere p\u00e5 omkring 30%, og 15% af unge ryger ogs\u00e5. Disse data tyder p\u00e5, at de eksisterende tilgange, is\u00e6r strenge anti-vaping-foranstaltninger, ikke kun har sl\u00e5et fejl, men kan forv\u00e6rre situationen. I stedet for blot at indf\u00f8re forbud, har disse lande gjort det muligt for rygere at skifte til mindre skadelige produkter som snus, vaping og nikotinposer. Sverige har f.eks. Europas laveste rygeretal og har drastisk s\u00e6nket antallet af rygerelaterede sygdomme, herunder kr\u00e6ft. Ved at st\u00f8tte adgang til mindre skadelige alternativer har Sverige bevist, at skadesreduktion virker, og at pragmatiske, forbrugervenlige politikker er n\u00f8glen til at opmuntre folk til at holde op med at ryge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Zealand tilbyder endnu et overbevisende eksempel p\u00e5 effektiv skadesreduktion. I de sidste fem \u00e5r har New Zealand form\u00e5et at halvere sin rygerate, hovedsageligt ved at fokusere p\u00e5 tilg\u00e6ngelige, regulerede alternativer. I dag er landet p\u00e5 vej til at blive det n\u00e6ste land til at opn\u00e5 r\u00f8gfri status, med mindre end 5% voksne, der ryger.
