At holde op med at ryge er en af de sv\u00e6reste ting at g\u00f8re, som mange tidligere og nuv\u00e6rende rygere ved af smertefuld personlig erfaring. Folkesundheden og politikerne skal g\u00f8re bedre for at hj\u00e6lpe rygere med at holde op. 700.000 d\u00f8dsfald om \u00e5ret i EU burde v\u00e6re et tilstr\u00e6kkeligt incitament til at f\u00e5 os til at gent\u00e6nke vores nuv\u00e6rende tilgang.<\/h3>\n

For effektivt at hj\u00e6lpe rygere med at holde op for altid, skal tre betingelser v\u00e6re opfyldt:<\/p>\n

For det f\u00f8rste skal rygere kunne v\u00e6lge mellem s\u00e5 mange muligheder som muligt for at finde ud af, hvilken rygestopmetode der fungerer bedst for dem. Mennesker er forskellige, og derfor skal forskellige m\u00e5der at holde op med at ryge p\u00e5 v\u00e6re tilg\u00e6ngelige og overkommelige. For meget f\u00e5 mennesker (under 4%) virker det at holde op uden hj\u00e6lp. For nogle f\u00e5 virker nikotinudskiftningsterapi (s\u00e5som nikotintyggegummi eller -plaster), og det viser sig, at for mange mennesker hj\u00e6lper nye nikotinalternativer dem med at holde op med at ryge \u00e9n gang for alle. Disse produkter sp\u00e6nder fra vaping og produkter, der ikke br\u00e6nder p\u00e5 varme, til snus eller nikotinposer. For det andet har vi brug for et moderne, \u00e5bent regels\u00e6t, der passer til disse nye alternativer. Disse nye produkter er ikke det samme som rygning. Derfor m\u00e5 de ikke behandles p\u00e5 samme m\u00e5de. I stedet har vi brug for risikobaseret regulering. Vaping er mindre skadeligt end rygning og m\u00e5 derfor ikke behandles p\u00e5 samme m\u00e5de. Skadesreduktion skal blive et centralt element i antirygepolitikker, ligesom inden for l\u00e6gemidler. Skadesreduktion f\u00f8lger praktiske strategier og l\u00f8sninger for at reducere de skadelige konsekvenser forbundet med brugen af visse stoffer i stedet for en urealistisk "bare stop"-tilgang. At tilskynde rygere, der ikke er i stand til eller ikke \u00f8nsker at holde op med at ryge, til at skifte til vaping, er et godt eksempel p\u00e5 skadesreduktion.<\/p>\n

For det tredje skal rygere have pr\u00e6cise oplysninger om de potentielle risici ved forskellige produkter for at kunne tr\u00e6ffe beslutninger. Det samme g\u00e6lder for sundhedspersonale, der arbejder med disse rygere. De skal kende fakta for at g\u00f8re en varig forskel for rygere.<\/p>\n

Desv\u00e6rre afsl\u00f8rer en helt ny unders\u00f8gelse bestilt af Consumer Choice Centre, skrevet i samarbejde med World Vapers' Alliance, adskillige misforst\u00e5elser om vaping, nikotin og skadesreduktion blandt sundhedspersonale og rygere.<\/p>\n

Unders\u00f8gelsen blev udf\u00f8rt for at f\u00e5 et st\u00f8rre indblik i virkningen af misopfattelser om vaping blandt praktiserende l\u00e6ger, rygere og politikere p\u00e5 den fremtidige skadesreduktionspolitik i Europa, og viste, at kun 3 ud af 15 l\u00e6ger i Tyskland siger, at de overhovedet kender udtrykket 'skadesreduktion'. S\u00e5 selv de mennesker, der direkte kan hj\u00e6lpe rygere med at forbedre deres liv, er n\u00e6ppe informeret om skadesreduktion. L\u00e6ge Konstantinos Farsalinos, kardiolog og ekspert i folkesundhed, udtaler, at "de nuv\u00e6rende videnskabelige beviser er krystalklare: vaping er langt mindre skadeligt end rygning og b\u00f8r v\u00e6re en del af alle rygestoprammer verden over."\u201c<\/p>\n

Ikke desto mindre tror en bekymrende m\u00e6ngde p\u00e5 33% af rygere i Frankrig og 43% i Tyskland fejlagtigt, at vaping er lige s\u00e5 skadeligt eller mere skadeligt end cigaretter. Dette er et massivt problem for folkesundheden. S\u00e5danne forkerte risikoopfattelser forhindrer millioner af rygere i at skifte til mindre skadelige alternativer s\u00e5som vaping.<\/p>\n

Derudover tror 69% af rygere i Frankrig og 74% i Tyskland fejlagtigt, at nikotin for\u00e5rsager kr\u00e6ft. Folk ryger m\u00e5ske for at indtage nikotin, men de d\u00f8r af rygningen, ikke nikotinforbruget. Mange forbrugere og l\u00e6ger tror fejlagtigt, at nikotin for\u00e5rsager forskellige sygdomme, mens det er bevist, at de mange andre giftstoffer, der er involveret i rygning, er den ultimative synder, som bevist af briterne.
