Mange vaping-aktivister mener, at en af \u00e5rsagerne til de fleste misforst\u00e5elser om vaping er den m\u00e5de, medierne d\u00e6kker problemet p\u00e5. Almindelige mennesker bliver konstant udsat for p\u00e5stande om, at vaping for\u00e5rsager erektil dysfunktion, g\u00f8r dig blind eller er \u00e5rsagen til EVALI. Samtidig d\u00e6kker n\u00e6sten ingen over, at omkring 82 millioner rygere har v\u00e6ret i stand til at holde op takket v\u00e6re vaping. En af de mest betydningsfulde sejre inden for folkesundhed i de sidste par \u00e5rtier g\u00e5r ubem\u00e6rket hen af store dele af offentligheden og beslutningstagere. I stedet f\u00e5r enhver falsk unders\u00f8gelse eller sp\u00f8rgeskema enorm medied\u00e6kning, mens enhver sandf\u00e6rdig og oplysende rapport forbig\u00e5s.<\/p>\n

S\u00e5 jeg blev interesseret og ville tjekke, om denne hypotese rent faktisk er sand. Ligesom de fleste aktivister har jeg oprettet en Google-alarm med ordet "vaping" og besluttet at tjekke i en uge (23.4.22-1.5.22), hvilke slags artikler jeg modtager fra alarmen (her<\/a> (er den komplette liste). Dette er naturligvis ikke en videnskabelig unders\u00f8gelse. Det er snarere min opfattelse af d\u00e6kningen \u2013 s\u00e5 sandsynligvis lidt forudindtaget. Ikke desto mindre synes jeg, den er interessant.<\/p>\n

If\u00f8lge min beretning var mere end 40% af artiklerne negative, og jeg m\u00e5 indr\u00f8mme, at jeg blev lidt overrasket, fordi jeg forventede mere negativ d\u00e6kning. 29% var neutrale og 29% positive ud af 41 artikler.<\/p>\n

Jeg valgte tilf\u00e6ldigt denne uge, ekskluderede alle artikler med betalingsmur, ren erhvervsrapportering, annoncer og pressemeddelelser, og talte ikke den samme artikel to gange i forskellige medier. Jeg kategoriserede kun artiklerne efter, hvordan de d\u00e6kkede emnet, og ikke om jeg var enig i det specifikke punkt eller den specifikke politik. Hvilket betyder, at begge sider f\u00e5r en fair repr\u00e6sentation, eller kun anti-vaping-gruppen?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Selvom jeg forventede endnu mere negativitet, er den m\u00e5de, vaping d\u00e6kkes af medierne i \u00f8jeblikket, et problem \u2013 for folkesundheden og forbrugerne. Hvis regeringerne fulgte videnskabens anbefalinger, 200 millioner liv<\/a> kunne reddes p\u00e5 verdensplan ved at f\u00f8lge Storbritanniens eksempel med at opfordre rygere til at skifte til vaping. I stedet er st\u00f8rstedelen af det, vi l\u00e6ser om vaping, negativt. Skr\u00e6mmekampagnen og manglen p\u00e5 information om vaping skader rygere, der er bange for at skifte v\u00e6k fra skadelige cigaretter p\u00e5 grund af misinformation. Denne fjendtlighed over for vaping skader ogs\u00e5 hundredtusindvis af aktivister verden over og g\u00f8r deres mission om at g\u00f8re det muligt for s\u00e5 mange mennesker som muligt at holde op med at ryge endnu sv\u00e6rere.<\/p>\n
